Since 1995, the Start menu has been an integral part of Windows. Of course, Windows 8 is a notable exception.

Now, after upgrading to the new operating system, you must master the slightly different Start menu in Windows 11. Although the menu has been changed, you can still customize it in many ways through “Settings” and add application shortcuts to it.

The biggest difference between Windows 11’s Start menu and its predecessor is that it doesn’t have any tiles. Gone are the funky animated dynamic tile shortcuts that light up the Windows 10 menus.

However, Windows 11’s Start menu does display recent file items, which is a feature that the previous menu lacks. Therefore, you can select files recently opened in software applications from the menu to restart them when needed. Turn them on, this is a friendly auxiliary feature that many users will love.

Another difference is that the Start menu of Windows 11 includes a search box where you can enter keywords to search. Therefore, the search box is more closely integrated with the new menu.

1. How to pin application shortcuts to the start menu

You can pin the application shortcuts of the most important software to the “Start” menu. To do this, follow the steps below.

1. Click the start button in the taskbar to open the start menu.

2. Click the “All Applications” button.

3. Right-click the application and select the “Pin to Start Screen” option.

You will see shortcuts in the fixed applications section of the “Start” menu. To delete a pinned app, right-click it and select “Unpin from Start Screen”.

Now it is not possible to pin the folder desktop shortcut to the “Start” menu in Windows 11, but you can still add library folder shortcuts to the menu, such as videos, documents, pictures, downloads and music subfolders of your user account, etc. .
