People sometimes get used to save files and folders on Windows 11 desktop, and keep them there all the time. And then the files and folders turn more and more. And this will keep occupying disk space of system drive. Take me for example, I always give system partition 60GB. A pure Windows 11 takes about 14GB disk space after partition format. And various kinds of software keep swallowing the rest disk space, even though most of them are not installed in system partition. And now, my system partition turns nearly full.
I don’t know how to free the space of system partition. Those Windows 11 cleaners give me no help about it. So I am figuring out a way to move desktop from system partition to another partition.
This move doesn’t mean a copy of desktop from system partition to another, but a realtime move in any condition. After the desktop move, you’ll be save and use the desktop files and folders on desktop, and these files and folders will not take any disk space of system partition.

- Open This PC
- Right click on the “Desktop” folder and choose Properties
- Click on Location at the top navigation bar
- A single click on Move button
- Choose a folder in another partition
- click “Select Folder”
